Supporting Faculty Navigating Career Disruptions
UMD ADVANCE has created the following resources to help campus leaders and individual faculty navigate, address, and document the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, changes to the federal landscape, and other disruptions on faculty members.

The University of Maryland recognizes that some faculty have experienced disruptions to their research/scholarship, teaching, or service and has issued guidance for academic leaders on how to consider these disruptions in evaluative processes. Per this guidance, UMD faculty members can choose to describe the context and impact of external circumstances on their work, in both faculty activities reporting and in candidate statements submitted in promotion and review materials.

In an effort to understand the range of COVID-19-related accommodations, this brief summarizes the responses from each UMD academic college or school regarding changes to faculty-related policy and practice. Initiated by the ADVANCE Program and the ADVANCE Professors, each dean and associate dean for faculty affairs completed a brief inventory regarding their unit’s response to COVID-19.
