Alana Hackshaw

Alana Hackshaw, PhD, is a clinical professor in the School of Public Policy (SPP). She also serves on SPP's senior leadership team as the School's Chief Access and Success Officer. As Chief Access and Success Officer, she advises senior leadership on the strategic integration of inclusive excellence priorities across the School and serves as the School's representative on university-wide inclusive excellence initiatives. Dr. Hackshaw also serves as the program director for the Thurgood Marshall Research Fellows Program, an initiative of the Institute for Public Leadership at SPP that engages undergraduate and graduate students in research projects focused on social equity. Her courses focus on governance and pluralism in public policy.

Dr. Hackshaw's research interests include the impact of racial equity plans on municipal and regional governance, patterns of political incorporation among first- and second-generation Black immigrants in the US, and the impact of US immigration policies on immigrants of color in the US.
