Faedra Carpenter

While Faedra has taught at UMD for 17 years and has had the privilege of serving on several university-wide committees, she is especially excited about starting her first year as the AP for ARHU. Faedra’s current academic research is two-fold: she is working on a manuscript that focuses on African American dramaturgy and another that explores how “waterways” (historic currents in the world of aquatics) have shaped African American expressive culture. As a scholar-artist whose research and professional work actively merge theory and practice, Faedra is particularly interested in further championing the ways that public facing scholarship, creative research, and experiential teaching and learning are recognized as vital contributions to our academic fields.
