The ADVANCE Program recognizes and honors Dr. Avis H. Cohen, co-leader of the original NSF grant that catalyzed the our program, who passed away earlier this summer.
Dr. Cohen was an internationally respected pioneer in cognitive and neuroscience research, whose work on locomotion and neural circuits inspired generations of scientists. She was also a tireless champion for the agency, advancement, and success of women in science, as exemplified but not only her leadership with ADVANCE but her mentorship and advocacy.
