Hosted by the Advancing Faculty Diversity Network, the Let’s Talk series creates space for faculty to connect with colleagues and have candid conversations about navigating their careers and finding opportunities for growth within the university. Sessions will focus on building leadership and professional skills, navigating common faculty challenges, and sharing strategies and experiences that can help faculty make informed decisions about their next steps. As a part of this series, ADVANCE will be hosting a full day writing retreat in collaboration with ABRI.

Navigating Service Demands? Let’s Talk.

November 19 2026 | 11:00 - 12:30 pm

Social science research shows that faculty of color often encounter heavy service loads that can take time away from research, teaching, and/or other duties more commonly rewarded in academe (Domingo et al., 2022; Guillaume & Apodaco, 2022; Griffin et al., 2013). In this interactive panel, UMD faculty will discuss their approach to navigating service.
