“Going Up” for Tenure: Workshop for Assistant Professors
Thursday, January 23rd, 2025; 10am - 3:30pm
Join us for a one-day, in-person workshop designed for assistant professors (all genders) who are preparing for promotion to associate professor. Participants will dedicate time to dossier preparation and personal narratives, receive feedback, and gain insight from campus insiders. This bootcamp provides a focused opportunity to strategize, connect with peers, and take actionable steps toward achieving tenure and promotion.
This workshop is most appropriate for assistant professors who are preparing to submit their tenure and promotion materials in the next one to two years, though all are welcome.
Facilitator: Jean McGloin, Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice
Jean McGloin is a Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland. She received her Ph.D. and M.A. in Criminal Justice from Rutgers University-Newark. She earned an A.B., summa cum laude, from Bryn Mawr College. Dr. McGloin's research interests include peer influence, co-offending, street gangs, and collective behavior.

Advancing to Full: Workshop for Associate Professors
Friday, January 24th, 2025; 10am - 3:30pm
Join us for a one-day, in-person workshop is designed for associate professors of all genders who are preparing for promotion to full professor. Participants will identify concrete steps to take as they prepare for promotion to full professor, learn from recently promoted associate professors and campus insiders, and build connections with other faculty at a similar career stage. This workshop offers a focused opportunity to strategize, connect, and take actionable steps toward achieving full professorship.
This workshop is most appropriate for associate professors who are preparing to submit their promotion materials in the next one to two years, though all are welcome.
Facilitator: Brooke Fisher Lui, Professor of Communication
Dr. Brooke Liu is a Professor of Communication and Distinguished Scholar-Teacher. Her research investigates how strategic communication contributes to organizational and community crisis readiness. Liu's work has been funded by a range of government agencies including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
