Equity Coach for College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences

As the inaugural Assistant Dean for Diversity and Strategic Initiatives at UMD’s College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences (CMNS), Dr. Maura Belliveau serves as the diversity officer, equity officer/administrator, and equity coach for the college. She is responsible for developing and implementing policies and programs that educate and engage the entire CMNS community and advance the college’s commitment to DEI. Maura previously served as the inaugural director of a center providing empirically-based DEI training and events across the University at Buffalo as well as the inaugural director of the university’s Distinguished Visiting Scholars program for outstanding underrepresented scholars/artists – a program which significantly increased faculty diversity and provided extensive mentoring support for students within its first two years. Her published scholarship as a social psychologist and organizations scholar has focused on the social, structural, and organizational conditions which cause inequity as well as the perceived and substantive effects of diversity policies. As a management faculty member in business schools prior to entering full-time administration, her teaching and consulting focused on aiding organizations in aligning culture, structure, and strategy through the enactment of DEI-informed HR best practices in recruitment, selection, retention, evaluation, career development, and compensation/reward structures. Maura earned her B.A. in Psychology and History from Mount Holyoke College and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from UC Berkeley.
